Due to unforeseen weather issues, Rick Collins and the NY based Leap for Life team will now be diving on Sunday, October 9th.

We’re so glad that you are ready to “leap” into a truly unique fundraising opportunity.  If you’re an experienced skydiver, you know for yourself what an exciting and exhilarating experience it is –and if you’re a first-timer, congratulations on “taking the plunge” and joining us!

You’ve taken the first step — you know you want to skydive for a cause.  Now you’re ready to take the next steps in order to really get off the ground!

1) Find a convenient skydiving dropzone near you so you can officially sign up to “Leap for Life” in your town or city!  For a list of dropzones across the country, and a link to your dropzone, click HERE. **Leap for Life is not affiliated with any drop zones, this link is provided solely for your convenience to find a place closest to your location for your jump**

2) Confirm which of our two great causes that you’ll be skydiving for:

The story of Alexandra “Alex” Scott, founder of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, is simple.  Shortly before her first birthday, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.   In the year 2000, when Alex was just four years old, she told her parents that she wanted to have a lemonade stand in her front yard.   She surprised everyone when she announced her plan – to donate the money from her stand to “her hospital” to help the doctors find a cure for all kids with cancer.Even though Alex continued to bravely battle her own cancer, she also continued to hold yearly lemonade stands to benefit childhood cancer research.   News of Alex, a sick child, helping other sick children spread far and wide.   People from all over the world were inspired by her story and decided to help Alex in her quest to find a cure by holding their own lemonade stands and donating the money to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.  In August of 2004, Alex passed away at the age of 8, knowing that, with the help of others, she had raised over $1 million to help find a cure for all kids with cancer.

Since Alex’s very first stand in 2000, over $40 million has been raised for childhood cancer research!  Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is currently funding 150 research projects in 50 leading pediatric cancer hospitals throughout the United States.

Strength for Life is a not for profit organization dedicated to assisting men and women who are living with cancer reclaim their lives by providing a safe and effective exercise program FREE OF CHARGE. Medical research has shown when exercise is part of your treatment plan, recovery and quality of life is greatly enhanced.  Some of the services they provide include educating cancer patients and the general public on the benefits of exercise in reducing the risk of certain cancers and improving functional activities.

In the event that you want to fundraise for both of these great organizations, you will need to sign up separately on both websites– you’ll be able to set up Leap for Life fundraising pages on each, and skydive for these two great causes.

Again, we’re so glad that you’ve joined us for the 2011 Global Leap for Life.  Your dive will make a difference to so many people with cancer … and we know it will be an experience you’ll never forget!
